Launcher Switch privacy policy
Last updated: October 4, 2026
Launcher Switch is an app for Android TV and Google TV, made by MIDDLEPOINT SOLUTIONS S.L. ("MiddlePoint", "we"). This policy explains what the app does with information. In short, the app shares nothing unless you agree, and you can change your answer later.
What the app does
The app makes Home open the launcher you installed, and it can bring your TV's own home screen back. To do this it uses your TV's built-in debugging service. The app connects to that service inside the TV itself. The connection never leaves the TV.
What the app collects
Nothing, unless you agree. The first time you start setup, the app asks "Help improve Launcher Switch?". If you say no, or leave without answering, the app sends nothing about you or your TV to us or to anyone else.
If you agree, the app sends us:
- That you picked a launcher, and whether it was already on your TV or you went to get it on Google Play. Never which launcher.
- Which setup steps you reach, for example "debugging turned on" or "connected".
- Whether the switch worked, and if it didn't, a short code for the reason (for example "launcher not installed"). Also whether bringing back the original home worked.
- Crash reports: where in the app it crashed, and the state of the TV at that moment (for example free memory and storage).
- Your TV's model and Android version, and whether it runs Google TV or Android TV.
Google Firebase adds the basic information it collects for every app that uses it: the app's version, your TV's language, an approximate location (such as your country or city) that Google works out from your internet connection's IP address, a random ID for this installation of the app, and when and how long the app is used.
The app never sends your name, an email address or any account (the app has none), the list of apps on your TV, what you watch, anything you type, which launcher you chose, or your advertising ID. The app has no advertising.
Who handles this data
We use two Google services: Google Analytics for Firebase, for the usage information, and Firebase Crashlytics, for crash reports. Google processes this data for us, as our service provider, under Google's data processing terms (https://firebase.google.com/terms/). Google may process it outside the European Union; Google LLC is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. How Google handles information from apps that use its services: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
We do not sell this data, we do not share it with anyone else, and we do not use it for advertising.
What we use it for
To see where setup gets stuck and on which TVs, to find out why a switch fails, and to fix crashes. Nothing else.
How long it is kept
Crashlytics keeps crash reports for 90 days. Google Analytics keeps the detailed usage information for 2 months; after that we only see totals, such as how many TVs reached each step.
How to change your answer
Open Launcher Switch's Settings and select "Share usage and crash data" to turn it off or on. Settings is the screen the app opens on once your home screen is switched.
If you haven't switched your home screen, you can stop it by clearing the app's storage in your TV's settings (Apps, then Launcher Switch, then Clear data), or by uninstalling the app.
When you turn it off, the app stops sending at once, deletes any crash reports it was holding on the TV, and clears its random ID on the TV.
What the app keeps on your TV
To work, the app keeps a few things in its own private storage on the TV:
- A security key that your TV asks you to allow once, so the app can use the debugging service.
- A record of the switch: which home screen was turned off and which launcher you chose. The app needs this to put everything back exactly as it was.
- The result of its check after the last restart, whether you have finished the welcome screens, and your answer to "Help improve Launcher Switch?".
- If you agreed to share: the random ID and the usage information and crash reports waiting to be sent. While sharing is off, a crash report is kept on the TV only until the app next starts, and then deleted unsent.
To show you your options, the app also looks at which launchers and apps are installed on the TV. It reads this on the TV and does not store or send it. Nothing about the launchers and apps installed on your TV is sent, not even the one you pick.
None of this is backed up to the cloud. When you uninstall the app, Android deletes all of it.
Links that leave the app
The app can open a Google Play page for a launcher, and its setup screen shows a QR code for a setup video on YouTube. If you follow one of these, Google Play or YouTube handles your visit under Google's own privacy policy. The app itself sends nothing.
Your rights
We only collect this information because you agreed, and you can withdraw that at any time as described above. Withdrawing doesn't affect what was sent before. Because the app has no account, we can't tell which information is yours; you can still write to us to ask about it or to have it deleted, and you can complain to the Spanish data protection authority (Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, https://www.aepd.es).
Children
The app is not directed at children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above.
